Me, 6-7 months pregnant with Levi at the St Louis Arch, March 2007.
Me with Levi, just after a smooth delivery. July 1st, 2007
Robin with Levi after being taken back to our room. July 2007
Brandon, Jacob and Toby getting to be with their new brother for the first time.
Levi about a week old, before we ever heard of a volvulus, TPN or small bowel transplant. July 2007
This picture was taken on July 16th. It was after we had made the choice to do the transplant (and not let him die peacefully) and before the second surgery where they removed all the dead intestine. The bag on his belly contained his intestines and was for them to watch for any sign that the bowel may pinken back up--it didn't.
Levi after the second surgery where the dead bowel was removed (all but 3cm of his small intestine and 10% of his large) and he was stapled back up. July 16th, 2007
After getting off the ventilator. Only a couple of days after the second surgery.
Levi after coming off sedation. Just a day or so after being extubated. He stayed wide awake for a whole day and a half. I guess he didn't like being asleep for so long.
Me sitting by his bedside. I think I stayed there holding his little hand for the better part of those first few days. I didn't know what else to do for him.
Out of the PICU and onto the regular floor within a week
Scar from surgery. Only a couple of weeks after the surgery.
I love this picture!
